Canoe & Kayak Rentals

NOTE: The UTRCA will not be opening our rental program this season at Fanshawe Conservation Area. The safety of our visitors and staff is paramount and we are unable to maintain our rentals according to the requirements of the local health unit and legislative restrictions during COVID-19.

Fanshawe Conservation Area has 6 canoes, 4 kayaks (single person), and 2 tandem kayaks (2 person) available for rent during the operating season on a first come, first served basis (no reservations accepted).

Rental includes the canoe/kayak plus life jackets, paddles and an emergency kit. We do NOT rent life jackets or paddles on their own.

All rentals must stay in Fanshawe Conservation Area on the reservoir. Canoes/kayaks cannot be taken outside of the Conservation Area or elsewhere on the Thames River.


  • $37 for half day (up to 4 hours)

  • $50 for full day (more than 4 hours)

PLUS day use admission, season's pass or camping permit

Who can rent a canoe or kayak?

  • Persons 18 years of age or older can rent a canoe/kayak.

  • You must show a valid driver's license.

  • You must sign a rental agreement/waiver before taking the canoe/kayak out on the water. By signing the agreement/waiver, you are accepting responsibility for anyone using the equipment, and for any passengers.

  • Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult when in the canoe/kayak.

  • Staff are not available to assist with moving any equipment, including the canoe/kayak. You/your group must be able to lift the boat off the storage rack and carry it into the water, and then return the boat to the storage rack.

How do I rent a canoe or kayak?

  • Go to the Campground Registration Office to sign the rental agreement/waiver and show your documentation.

  • Rental hours vary depending on staff and weather. Please note that staff reserve the right to limit or refuse rentals due to unfavourable weather conditions.

  • Rentals are available 7 days/week during the summer months (until Labour Day).

  • Spring and fall rentals may be more limited, but generally are available on the weekends.
